History and Mission


When we opened our agency in 1989, we made a choice to specialize in professional liability and auxiliary coverages for the professional.  We were pioneers in restyling how professionals made their choices when purchasing the coverage.  At our beginning, most people told us their buying decision was based on what their professional society recommended or what their friend bought because they did not understand the product.  We saw a need to educate our clients on what to look for when buying the coverage; and we were able to show them that there is not just one insurance product out there that is right for all.  


Our mission is to:


1)  Give our clients the service they deserve in recognition that they are our most 

     important asset.

2)  Provide our clients the coverage they need so there is one less business decision they have to be concerned about; and provide it in a way that enhances our reputation.

3)  Make the insurance-buying process as simple as possible because we know our clients’ time is valuable.

Susan Arbanas


Sue began her insurance career in 1978 with a large property & casualty insurer in Lansing, MI.  After being transferred to Chicago, she moved to a company specializing in professional liability coverages and has been in professional liability since 1980.  Her last position with an insurance company was as the national underwriting manager for the company’s accountants and lawyers professional liability programs.  In 1989, Sue moved back to Michigan and started Arbanas & Associates Insurance Agency, Inc.  She attended Wayne State University and graduated cum laude with a B.A. from Michigan State University.   Sue is an avid antiques collector and likes to garden.




Kenneth Peterson


Ken began his insurance career in 1982 in the annuities field.  He left insurance to start his own company in an unrelated field and returned to insurance when he joined Arbanas & Associates.  He is passionate about providing superior service to our clients.  Ken served in the U.S. Marine Corps; and he studied horticulture and business at Michigan State University.  Ken is in the process of reforesting his suburban backyard and encouraging his neighbors to do the same; he is assisting a local elementary school in reforesting its property; and he serves on the Grosse Pointe Woods Tree Commission.
